sorry to say this but i haven't seen a trigger warning in awhile (not that i'm triggered by anything).
but why do you say you give trigger warning when there isn't anything triggering in your comic and the concept of trigger warnings is hugely over exaggerated.
it maybe my political views but i read comics that are way more grapic, adult (in the blood and gore sense not sexual) and darker than this one.
the idea of trigger warnings makes me cringe.

@martyrex: consider that not everyone has had the same life experiences as you and that things like suicide and forced hospitalisation can be upsetting to read about if you're not expecting it. just because trigger warnings dont apply to or benefit you, doesnt mean the same for someone else.

My Trigger: Trains/Death-by-Trains

@evegwood: Very right.

¡¡WARNING! DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF MY TRIGGER BELOW, IF YOU SHARE A AVERSION TO TRAINS OR DEATH/SUICIDE BY TRAIN YOU MAY WANT TO AVOID!!

@martyrex: When I am in a depressive state or even just a serious mood slump, trains can trigger me. Most people think it's stupid and I've even had other people who have diagnoses ridicule it. There is a valid cause for it though.

When I was a kindergartener my much older cousin was killed by a train. I found out when I was older he had stood on the tracks deliberately and waited for it.

Over the long battle with my own depression (I was first diagnosed at age thirteen in January of 1999, by then I was suicidal) I've grown to associate his suicide and the grief my family went through with trains, and that, in turn, is all associated with my own feelings worthlessness and wanting to die when my depressed begins to flare up.

When I'm doing well it's not a big deal. When I'm in a bad place, it can cause issues. There are trains where I live, I haven't been able to move away. The sound has been known to cause panic attacks.

We were watching a movie in a psych rehab group I go to and a scene showed a car driving onto train tracks and into a tunnel. No one ever thought something like that would be a trigger. I was in a very negative place mentally already at the time, very depressed. I was sure the car would get annihilated by an oncoming train. I freaked out and actually started a fight with someone who tried to brush off my episode. By nature, I'm not a confrontational person.

I read a chapter of a Fanfiction I was following...unexpectedly a scene was written where an elementary school class was mind controlled to jump....well, you can guess....I was triggered mostly because I wasn't expecting it. I started hyperventilating, couldn't breath. Things went blank white for a while.

It wasn't a scene that was impossible for the fandom or anything, it fit well. And suicide in general doesn't bother me. But trains and death by trains do.

@martyrex:
i’m glad you asked about the trigger warnings! i’ll get you up to speed on why they’re here and what they really mean. this is the list of warnings from the Recoil about page:

• drug use [very brief]
• suicide and death
• hospital settings
• forced institutionalization
• medical abuse
• blood and violence
• mind control
• physical, psychological, and emotional abuse

most of these haven’t appeared in the comic yet because Recoil is a 20 year project. we’re only on, what, year 3? but i have them listed out NOW because i don’t want someone to dig deep into my story and suddenly hit something that reminds them of trauma they’ve experienced.

it sounds to me like you are one lucky guy. you haven’t experienced any trauma related to suicide, death, being forced into isolation, or any form of abuse. congratulations! these warnings don’t apply to you!

here’s the thing though: they apply to thousands of other people. thousands of people have lost loved ones to suicide, or almost lost themselves to it. thousands of people have been mistreated by hospitals or had horrible accidents leading them to hospitals. thousands of people have escaped abuse, or are trapped in it right now. and any of these things could be very upsetting to relive in a story if they’re not prepared for it.

why the fuck do you think film, tv, and games have content warnings for violence, etc? for people who have experienced horrible events and don’t want to deal with it again. that’s exactly what these trigger warnings are.

by saying trigger warnings are overrated, you’re telling me that you haven’t thought once about, i dunno, people with PTSD existing, for one thing????? the author of this comic, ME, has PTSD.

hope this maybe clears things up for you! not everything in the world applies to you and that's okay!

This slam dunk is a thing of beauty. More so thanks to the depth leant by your shading. I'm so glad that you let your arm heal.
